WSP Opus water expert Josh Irvine has been recognised for his ground-breaking work by the industry, receiving the highly regarded Young Stormwater Professional of the Year Award at last week’s Water New Zealand Stormwater Conference in Auckland.

The Stormwater Conference Committee commended Josh for his work towards the betterment of the industry as a whole, for promoting uptake of smart technology and utilising global best practice, and his mentoring of upcoming engineers.

Josh, who is a Senior Water Resources Engineer, is delighted to be acknowledged by the industry.

“Thanks to everyone that has taught, supported and given me opportunities over the years. Hopefully I can do the same for other emerging professionals.”

Liam Foster, WSP Opus Market Leader – Sector Leader for Water Resources, has always been impressed by Josh’s work ethic.

“His dedication is an inspiration to everyone around him. His willingness to mentor the next generation (as well as some of us older generation) and support clients achieve their vision, never fails to amaze me.”

This isn’t the first instance of a WSP Opus young-gun shaping the water industry.

Last year, Troy Brockbank, Kaitohutohu Matua Taiao / Senior Environmental Consultant took home the Beca Young Water Professional of the Year 2018 for his passionate application of mātauranga Māori (indigenous knowledge) and kaitiakitanga (stewardship) in his work developing sustainable stormwater design solutions and promotion of waterway protection and restoration.
